Glass Types for Tabletops

Clear toughened glass is the most popular choice for tabletops. It's transparent, strong, and works with virtually any interior style. Standard clear glass has a slight green tint visible at the edges. This is normal and caused by the iron content in the glass.

Ultra-clear (low-iron) glass eliminates the green tint for a crystal-clear, colourless finish. This is the premium choice when you want the truest visibility of the surface beneath, particularly popular for protecting beautiful timber tables or feature furniture where the wood grain should show through perfectly.

Frosted glass provides a translucent, diffused finish that obscures the surface below while still allowing light through. It's ideal for desks and office furniture where you want a clean, modern look without seeing cables or storage beneath.

Tinted glass is available in grey, bronze, and green tones. Tinted tabletops add a subtle colour accent to your furniture and can complement specific interior colour palettes. All tinted glass is also toughened for safety.

Edge Finishes Explained

The edge finish on a glass tabletop is both a safety feature and a design choice. Raw-cut glass edges are sharp and must be finished before use. We offer several options:

Flat polished is the most popular finish. The edge is ground flat and polished to a smooth, glossy finish. It's clean, modern, and safe to touch. This is our default recommendation for most tabletops.

Pencil polished rounds the edge slightly for a softer look and feel. It's a good choice for families with young children or for pieces where the edge will be frequently touched.

Bevelled edges are cut at an angle (typically 25mm wide at 15–20 degrees), creating a faceted edge that catches and reflects light. Bevelled edges add a premium, decorative quality and are popular on feature dining tables and display surfaces.

Arris is a basic safety finish where the sharp edges are lightly ground smooth. It's functional rather than decorative and is the most cost-effective option, suitable for tabletops that sit inside a frame or channel where the edge isn't visible.
